Banks are an important part of our financial system and their smooth functioning is essential for the economy. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) which is the central bank of India controls all the commercial banks and ensures their proper functioning as per the needs of the economy, but have you ever thought how much the governor of RBI is taking home as salary?
Presently, the governor of RBI is Raghuram Rajan and the first perk that a governor enjoys is having his signature at the Indian currency.
Raghuram lives in a colonial bungalow situated on Carmicheal Road and his list of neighbors includes some really very rich businessmen of India; however, when it comes to the earnings of an RBI governor, it is very less in comparison to his neighbors.
RBI governor and Cabinet Secretary to the Indian government receive the same amount of salary and perks, so it means that the RBI governor is held equivalent to the highest civil servant of the country; however, if we consider the duties and his job profile, the RBI governor is a deputy finance minister in real terms.
As per data available till 30th June, 2015, Raghuram Rajan earns Rs 1.98 lakh per month which is not much considering the fact that some IIM graduates get better offers than this in their campus placement. However, the salary of the governor is set to revise very soon, as per RBI.
