Nadia Murad Basee Taha, a 21 year old Yazidi girl has made an appeal to the United Nations Security Council for wiping out Islamic State completely, as she herself has suffered the brutal behavior of militants for three months, when she was kidnapped by them as “war booty”.
On Wednesday, Nadia was speaking in front of the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council, it was their first meeting on the matter of human trafficking and she told them that, “Rape was used to destroy women and girls and to guarantee that these women could never lead a normal life again. Islamic State has made Yazidi women into flesh to be trafficked in.”
Nadia told that she was kidnapped in the month of August last year, from her village in Iraq and she was taken to Mosul by a bus. Islamic State is said to have strong presence in Mosul and Nadia was kept in a building with thousands of Yazidi ladies and kids. Militants use to exchange these ladies and kids as gifts.
After a few days, a man took Nadia with him and she told, “He forced me to get dressed and put my makeup on and then that terrible night, he did it. He forced me to serve as part of his military faction, he humiliated me every day.”
She made an attempt to run away but she was caught by a guard. But in her one of attempts she got successful in running away and now she lives in Germany. The members of the Council praised Nadia for her courage, whose several brothers have been killed by the militants of Islamic State.
The United Nations has requested the United Nations Security Council to refer this issue to the International Court for prosecution as UN is doubtful that IS may have committed genocide in its attempt to wipe out the Yazidi community.
On Wednesday, the council has condemned the human trafficking done by IS and other terrorists groups such as the Boko Haram and the Lord’s Resistance Army and has warned that, “certain acts associated with trafficking in persons in the context of armed conflict may constitute war crimes.”
