It was revealed by Facebook Inc that $4.26 million (Around Rs 28 Crore) was spent on Mark Zuckerberg’s security last year. As per the regulatory filing, the total cost from the year 2013 to year 2015 is brought to $12.5 million. This cost was spent for addressing safety concerns owing to threats to his safety that arise directly due to his position as CEO, chairman and founder.
Around $5.6 million was spent for security of Zuckerberg in the year 2014 and around $2.65 million in the year 2013. Last year the expense exceeded $1.53 million which Oracle Corp spent for protecting Larry Ellison, the executive chairman and $1.6 million spent by Amazon.com for Jeff Bezos.

In the filing, the company stated that Mark Zuckerberg is the 8th richest person in the world with $47 billion. This disclosure was made by Facebook this week after a question was raised in August by US Securities and Exchange Commission as to why the costs aren’t listed in filings as taxable perquisite.
In response to this, Facebook stated that a business oriented security concern that was identified for Zuckerberg exempted it from being reported in expenses. As per the filing, the position was reversed by the company after discussing with SEC staff. However, Jonathan Thaw, the spokeswoman of Facebook declined to comment.
Zuckerberg is provided with guards and home security system for protecting his house in Mission District of San Francisco. The team is also protected by US Secret Service Agent who also provided protection to President Barack Obama.
Security isn’t cheap. Each assignment needs 4 full-time guards which have annual cost of over $80,000 each. A security director earns around $200,000 an year.
