A woman in Australia, aged 35 collapsed because she wore skinny jeans. Owing to this, the blood supply to the calf muscles was cut up. She crawled for seeking help and also prompted health experts to give warning to people to not wear skinny jeans.
A consultant neurologist, Thomas Kimber stated that when she arrived, both her calves were massively and severely swollen. There jeans couldn’t be taken down without cutting them. The woman couldn’t move her toes or ankles properly and had lost feeling in her feet and lower legs.
When she was taken at the local hospital, it was found that the nerve fibers and muscle in the lower legs were damaged owing to prolonged compression, which was worsened by her skinny jeans.
There was reduction in blood supply to her leg muscles, which led to swelling. There was compression of adjacent nerves, said the sources.
This case is a ‘cautionary tale’ and people who wear skinny jeans should not squat for long periods. Actually, the woman had spent hours squatting while she was assisting a relative in moving house.
Her skinny jeans felt uncomfortable and tight, but she didn’t pay attention to it and instead went for a walk. While walking, she faced difficulty in lifting her feet and at a point, it became so bad that she fell down and wasn’t able to get up.
No one was around and she spent hours lying on the floor before she crawled to the road’s side and hailed a cab for taking her to the hospital. Her complete recovery was seen after she was put on an IV drip. She was discharged after 4 days when she could walk without help.
