On Sunday, a lady from Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh, chopped off a man’s private part as he was trying to rape her after thrashing her badly. The name of the accused is Ramkaran Prajapati (29) who visited his relative in Govarde village under Manpur police station on February 28. He visited the police station at 3 am and filed a complaint against the lady and her husband but as the police started investigating the matter, the truth was revealed.
This is what Shiv Shankar Mishra, incharge police station, Manpur stated, “We registered a case against the survivor on the complaint of Ramkaran Prajapati, but during the investigations it emerged that she did so while Ramkaran attempted to rape her, a case of attempt to rape was registered against Ramkaran Prajapati on Monday.”
He further stated, “The accused Ramkaran is a distant relative of the survivor and he came to their house on February 28, and took the survivor and her husband to a local fair. On returning he requested the survivor’s husband to fetch liquor and when he went away, the accused attempted to rape the survivor. He even thrashed her badly, during the course of this, the survivor anyhow managed to get kitchen knife and chopped off his private part.”

Ramkaran was unwilling to make a complaint and this is understood by the fact that the incident took place at 10 pm but he made his complaint at 3 am. He was compelled to lodge a complaint as the doctors refused to treat him without police being informed about the incident and Ramkaran needed treatment as he was bleeding heavily. This made him visit the police station and lodge a complaint which in turn revealed his crime. He is presently getting treated in Manpur’s government hospital.
In the month of February, a similar type of incident took place in Sidhi district when a lady went to police station with private parts of her brother-in-law, which she chopped off as he was trying to rape her and this was the only way she could have saved herself.
These incidents compel us to think that instead of growing to be better, our country is moving towards worse but one thing can be considered positive here. Women today don’t just tolerate everything happening to them and have started raising voices and taking action in self defence which is a good sign. At least rapists will be scared with such types of incidents and probably the number of rape cases will reduce in the future.
