Many Indian cricket fans are still not able to forget India’s loss in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as the Indian team played great cricket and won 10 matches consecutively in the tournament. Rohit Sharma-led squad was the only team which remained unbeaten till the finals which it lost to Australia.
The former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram feels that the Indian fans and media are also responsible for the shock and disappointment that they got when India lost the finals because they declared the Indian team as the winner even before the match.
During a show, Wasim Akram stated that he understands that as a country, it is difficult to get over it because the Indian team played so well, they won 10 matches consecutively, there was consistency, excellence, etc. He added that the fans should accept their mistake as they made their team a winner even before the finals which was wrong. He said that he is sorry to say but the fans also made mistakes, though their hopes were increased because of the brilliant manner in which their team played and it was not completely their fault but still they made a mistake.
Wasim Akram further added that the Indian team played superbly but they had a bad game against Australia and the Australian side deserves the credit for it. The former Pakistani skipper stated that the manner in which the Aussies bowled in the middle overs (11-40) and choked the boundaries was the deciding factor in the match. Wasim Akram said that the Aussies had better plans as they didn’t bowl a single pace-on delivery to SKY and they also had fine-leg and thirdman behind the keeper.
Wasim Akram also faced such situation as in 1999, he led the Pakistani team against Australia in the finals of the ODI World Cup and it was won by the Aussies. Wasim Akram said that the cricket fans of India and Pakistan have an elephant’s memory and even today people ask him about losing that final because of which he avoids social media.
Wasim Akram asked the Indian cricket fans to move on and support their team in the T20 World Cup which will be played in 2024 and we certainly agree with him.
