The senior Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the pillars of Indian cricket and there is no denying the fact that they have contributed immensely towards the growth of Indian cricket.
Both the cricketers have taken retirement from the T20 format just after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 which was hosted by USA and West Indies. They both will focus on ODIs and test matches but almost everyone feels that they will retire from all the formats in a couple of years.
While Virat Kohli is known for his aggressive attitude, Rohit has a calm and composed personality and he is known for being friendly with everyone, whether he is a senior or a junior.
The veteran Indian cricketer Amit Mishra recently appeared in a podcast in which he revealed the differences between Rohit and Virat and what changes have come in both the cricketers over the years.
Amit Sharma has played under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and after sharing the dressing room with both the cricketers, he has revealed that fame and power changed Virat Kohli but Rohit Sharma remained the same as he was on day one.
Here’s what Amit Sharma said, “I don’t have the same relation with Kohli like what I had earlier. It’s the difference of their natures. Rohit, the first time when I met him and when I meet him now, is the same. He hasn’t changed. Then, who would you relate more to? The one who hasn’t changed or the one who did according to the situation?”
He further added, “I haven’t been in the Indian team for five years but he still jokes with me when we come across. We know what kind of rapport we have maintained with each other. There was a time when we didn’t speak to each other but we talked and broke that barrier and now, we have great bonding.”
Talking about the changes that have come in Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra said, “I have seen Virat change a lot. We had almost stopped talking. When you get fame and power, they think people are reaching out to them for a purpose. I was never one of those.”
He went on to say, “I have known Cheeku since he was 14, when he used to eat samosas, when he needed pizza every night. But there is a huge difference between the Cheeku I knew and Virat Kohli, the captain. Whenever he meets me, he is very respectful, but it’s obviously not the same anymore. The way I joke around with Rohit, I can’t do it with Kohli.”
Amit Mishra shared his opinion as to how Rohit Sharma’s nature makes him more successful. In his words, “Rohit has not changed at all. And that’s why he is so successful. He is cheerful and mingles with everyone. He never differentiates between seniors and juniors. Even if he scolds the new boys, he also takes them along to grab a meal. That’s how an elder brother behaves.”
