Filmmaker SS Rajamouli recently embarked on a solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest peak, and while the breathtaking views left him mesmerized, the litter along the trail was a stark disappointment. Sharing his experience on social media, Rajamouli posted a video collage from the summit, capturing both the natural beauty and the unfortunate sight of plastic waste scattered across the area.
In the video, Rajamouli, dressed casually in a green T-shirt, pants and white sneakers, appeared contemplative as he took in the view.
However, the sight of discarded plastic bottles and garbage among the rocks prompted him to voice his concerns. “Had an amazing solo trek to Deomali, Odisha’s highest and most stunning peak. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking. However, it was disheartening to see the trail marred by litter. Such pristine wonders deserve better. A little civic sense can make a huge difference… Every visitor should carry back their waste to help protect these places,” he wrote.

His remarks quickly caught the attention of Suparno Satpathy, a socio-political leader from Odisha, who responded to his post. Acknowledging Rajamouli’s concerns, Satpathy expressed his regrets over the filmmaker’s experience, urging authorities to implement strict measures. “Visitors need to be sensitised extensively and violators need to be penalised heavily,” he wrote, emphasising the need for greater awareness and action to preserve Odisha’s natural gems.

On the professional front, Rajamouli is gearing up for his next directorial venture, tentatively titled SSB29, which will feature Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. The film, written by Vijayendra Prasad, remains shrouded in secrecy regarding additional casting details.
Rajamouli’s previous work, RRR (2022), a Telugu-language epic historical action drama, was a massive success. Starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn and others, the film paid a fictional tribute to revolutionaries who fought against oppression.
While the filmmaker continues to create cinematic masterpieces, his recent trek sheds light on the pressing need for environmental consciousness among travelers, ensuring that nature’s wonders remain unspoiled for future generations.
