SS Rajamouli directed Baahubali series (Baahubali: The Beginning & Baahubali 2: The Conclusion) is certainly one of the most loved movies of the Indian cinema and it has also revolutionized the Indian cinema as it made North Indian audiences fall in love with southern movies.
Southern movies had North Indian audiences earlier as well but after the Baahubali series, there was a considerable increase in the fan following of southern movies and actors in northern part of the country.
You will be surprised to know that initially, the director wanted to cast quite a few Bollywood actors for his magnum opus but as he didn’t get good response, he decided not to cast Bollywood actors.
Here is a list of popular actors who refused to be a part of the Baahubali series:
1. Hrithik Roshan:
The handsome hunk who is compared to Greek God because of his looks was offered the title role in the movie but he decided to give Baahubali a miss and signed Mohenjo Daro instead. However in a chat show, the director has stated that he always had Prabhas in his mind while writing the role.
2. John Abraham:
The Force actor was offered the role of Bhallaladeva but John Abraham was not interested in doing the role. However, it was good that John Abraham didn’t accept the offer as Rana Daggubati was phenomenal in his performance and now we just can’t imagine anyone else playing that cruel character.
3. Sonam Kapoor:
The beautiful daughter of actor Anil Kapoor revealed on a chat show that she was offered an important role in Baahubali which she rejected but she didn’t reveal the character which was offered to her.
4. Sridevi:
During a chat show, the director revealed that the role of Rajmata Sivagami was first offered to actress Sridevi but his team was not happy after hearing her demands and they thought that they would go over budget if they cast Sridevi. This resulted in them contacting Ramya Krishnan and the director said that Ramya proved so fantastic that now he is happy that he didn’t cast Sridevi.
5. Mohanlal:
The superstar of the Malayalam Cinema was offered the role of Katappa but he rejected it because of screen time issues. Later on, the role was played by Telugu actor Sathyaraj and he played it so well that it became iconic and one of the most loved characters.
Whatever the reason may be but rejecting a role in Baahubali was a mistake by each one of them. What do you say?
