At last, Vadodara Crime Branch has succeeded in nabbing the person who has been troubling them for the last two months by posting letters of bomb threats. Shreyas Chandrakant Gandhi, a 40 year old man, has sent almost 200 letters to the police of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
The officers of Vadodara crime branch also found letters, name register, post covers, stamps, printer and other material which Shreyas used to write and post the letters. Shreyas, resident of Ghadiyali Pol in Mandvi, was nabbed on Friday from Wadi when he was posting letters. E Radhakrishnan, Police Commissioner of Vadodara told, “Assistant Sub-Inspector Harinath Ramabhai and Head Constable Dilipsinh Parvatsinh were watching the Ghadiyali Pol post box, which was identified as the one from where several of the hoax letters had been sent.”
Shreyas was caught around 10 pm while he was posting letters in the box. He has accepted that the letters he was sending have been addressed to various locations in Gujarat and Rajasthan. As per the police, since two months many letters have been posted by Shreyas from different post boxes in Vadodara, four letters were recovered from him when he was arrested. Those letters were being sent to two branches of Indian Overseas Bank in Ahmedabad, Jalaram temple in Karelibaug, Vadodara and a branch of Bank Of India in Vadodara.
The language used to write the letters was Hindi and English and they were undersigned as ISIS and IM, both of them are terrorist organizations. Shreyas, a PG in Commerce from MSU, works at Share Market Office 839 in Vadodara. He used to run a cyber café and he has used the customer names to sign the letters. Radhakrishnan further told “He would even name a few police officials in the letters to amplify the level of panic. The next day, when the newspapers reported the chaos the letters caused, he would proudly show them to his wife and keep the cutting of the articles as keepsakes. He did it for fun.”
He added, “We contacted the postmaster general and then strategically posted our men near the post boxes. We zeroed in on the post box from where the letters were most frequently sent. We then kept a watch on the post box and arrested the accused on Friday night from Ghadiyali Pol.” Now, the police are trying to determine whether Gandhi worked alone or is associated with any terror organization or group. “We booked him for terrorism, giving bomb threats and terrorizing people. We will conduct further investigating on the exact modus operandi of the accused.”
Cash rewards and appreciation letters have been declared for the policemen and officers who were part of the operation.
