The Pakistani cricket fans had very high expectations from their cricket team before the start of the T20 World Cup 2024 but their cricketers were a huge disappointment as they couldn’t even win a match against the debutants USA and the Pakistani team got knocked out from the group stage.
In fact, many Indian cricket fans were not able to believe that Pakistan lost the match against India because it was almost in their pocket, they needed to chase only 120 runs and there was a time when they needed 47 runs from 46 balls and they had 7 wickets in hand. It won’t be wrong to say that the Pakistani team needs to blame themselves only for their dismal performance, while the bowlers performed well on some occasions, the batting and fielding were pathetic in almost all the matches.
The captaincy of Babar Azam was also slammed a lot and many former Pakistan cricketers have demanded his sacking and some have even asked the board to drop 7-8 players of the present team. Though Babar Azam has accepted that the team didn’t play well, he refused from giving up the captaincy, citing that he can’t play in place of all 11 players.
The former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria is also very upset with Babar Azam, Pakistani team and the Pakistan Cricket Board and during a conversation, he didn’t mince words while slamming all of them.
Danish Kaneria said that first a useless team is selected by the board and then they depended on Babar-Rizwan for winning the matches. He questioned as to till when they will have to tolerate these names, adding that in the major tournaments, these cricketers fail in making any impact but they score runs against teams like Zimbabwe and Ireland and then Babar Azam is being compared to Virat Kohli.
The new head coach of the Pakistani cricket team, Gary Kirsten was also very unhappy with the Pakistani players and their poor fitness levels. Gary Kirsten stated that there is no unity in the present Pakistani cricket team and he hasn’t seen such a situation in his long coaching career. Gary went on to say that though they call it a team, it is not a team as everyone is separated and they are not supporting each other.
Danish Kaneria stated that the PCB brought a new coach Gary Kirsten who helped team India win the 2011 World Cup but he cannot do wonders in few months because he is not a magician. Danish said that there is a lot of politics in Pakistan cricket and Gary will first need to understand the politics and then only, he will be able to work.
