Every year hundreds of movies are made in the Indian movie industry but only few of them manage to become a hit at the box-office. While few movies get a grand opening, several others start on a slow note but gain pace after good word of mouth gets spread about them and recently actor Suniel Shetty revealed that “Hera Pheri” and “Border” had a slow start but then they went on to become one of the biggest hits of the Indian cinema.
While we will get to see the third part of the “Hera Pheri” franchise next year, the makers of “Border” have also decided to come up with the sequel of the movie and Sunny Deol himself made an announcement regarding this few days back.
Released in 1997, directed by JP Dutta, “Border” was based on the India-Pakistan 1971 war and it depicted the events that unfolded at Longewala where 120 soldiers fought and defended the post all night.
The movie starred some big names of Bollywood such as Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Puneet Issar, etc.
However, “Border” was rejected by many big stars due to various reasons, earlier Sanjay Dutt was signed for a role but because of his jail term, he was replaced by Jackie Shroff.
Before signing Akshaye Khanna, the makers approached Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan but all of them declined the offer. It is being said that Aamir Khan declined the offer because he was busy with his movie “Ishq”, Salman Khan stated that he was not ready for doing this movie and Ajay Devgn refused because by that time, he was not interested in working in multi-starrers. Why other actors denied to do the role is not known but it won’t be wrong that Akshaye Khanna proved himself the best actor to play that character. Juhi Chawla was also approached for a role in “Border” but she refused as it was a small role and later on, Tabu played that character.
The movie was made on a small budget of Rs. 10 crores and it started slow but it went on to become a big hit as it earned Rs. 64 crores worldwide. “Border” also won many awards including three National Awards – Best Feature Film on National Integration, Best Lyricist (Javed Akhtar) and Best Male Playback Singer (Hariharan).
Now after 27 years, the makers have decided to make a sequel of “Border”, while Sunny Deol is confirmed to be a part of the film, there are reports which suggest that Ayushmann Khurrana has also been signed for the movie.
We are eagerly waiting to know more details about the sequel of “Border”, what about you?
