Modi’s Swachh Bharat dream will surely change the face of India; the PM has been taking many efforts to transform India into the cleanest country. Well, the statistics given below will make you believe in the fact that India does have many clean cities.
The results of Swachh Survekshan 2017 organized by Quality Council of India, were announced by Venkaiah Naidu yesterday and they are quite encouraging. 434 cities and towns had participated in this program, out of which Indore and Bhopal (MP) got the tag of the cleanest cities while Bhusawal (Maharashtra) and Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) were tagged as the worst cities in terms of cleanliness.
Feedback of around 18 lakh citizens was considered to come up with the results; it was surprising to see that from UP itself, there were 62 cities and towns and majority of them got a low score.
In 2016, Mysuru was the winner but unfortunately, it got the 5th position this year. Overall, a major improvement was seen in the cleanliness standards this year! Talking about garbage collection and sanitation, an 82 percent improvement was seen.
The criteria to decide the ranks!
1) Basically, 45% marks were allocated to collection and processing of garbage, sweeping, solid waste management and open defecation.
2) 25% marks were allotted to field inspection.
3) 30% was decided on the basis of citizen feedback.
Top 10 cleanest cities in India!
Even Venkaiah Naidu took to Twitter to share the report;
Happy to announce results of #SwachhSurvekshan2017 survey. I would call these results as ‘Citizens’ Verdict’ on sanitation in Urban areas! pic.twitter.com/YbYfD3n57s

Cities with lowest rankings!
What has surprised us is that even cities in Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan are lagging behind. Talking about Rajasthan, 29 cities and towns were surveyed, out of which 18 got shocking ranks i.e. below 300. Bundi has topped the best city list in Rajasthan, but sadly the rank is 171, quite low, right?
Now when we talk of Kerala, Kozhikode has got the best rank i.e. 254; Punjab too is in a bad situation as SAS Nagar has got the best rank i.e. 121. Majority of them are in bottom 100.
We hope to see better results next year; cities that have got low rankings should improve a lot on their sanitation and garbage facilities. Nothing is impossible if proper efforts are taken. So guys, which is the cleanest city according to you? Any other suggestions? Share in our comments section below.
