Sushma Swaraj has been helping Indians stuck abroad quite relentlessly. Her twitter handle has become more of a government help Centre. Not just for the people stuck abroad but also for the ones who are in need of alms and medical assistance. However, for a change this time Sushma Swaraj has gone a step ahead and has helped a student who didn’t even reach out to Swaraj for her help.
Charanya Kannan, an Indian Student at the Harvard Business School had travelled to Tanzania for a course on private-public partnerships. On her way back to the hotel, a bike thief snatched her handbag which had Charanya’s tickets, passport, all her money, two phones, and credit cards. The robbers snatched her bag violently and in the process Charanya received heavy bruises too.
The local people did not dare to come up for Charanya’s help and then quite understandably Charanya visited the Indian embassy in Tanzania for help. The shock however for Charanya was waiting at the Indian embassy.
When Charanya reached the Indian embassy, the consular over there made her feel even more helpless by saying that a bribe of even 2 crore rupees won’t be enough to get her a new passport. He explained Charanya the two possible options available. First, she can either wait for three weeks to get her new passport issued and secondly can go to India to get a new passport in two days. The second option came with a condition that it would take Charanya three months to reach India in the first place. Waiting was never an option for Charanya as she had to get back to Harvard in a week’s time.
Now began the real act of rescue when Sushma Swaraj read Charanya’s story and tweeted about it to let her know that help has finally arrived for her.
Charanya Kannan – I have carefully gone through your write up. https://t.co/AgUqLiXaXr /1

The consular had further threatened Charanya that twitter won’t come to her rescue at any cost. Charanya said that the Consular told her that she can tweet to anyone for help but ultimately it will be only him who’ll be the one who’ll act for her.
This is how Sushma Swaraj reacted on hearing about that officer
Just give me the name of this Officer in Indian High Commission in Tanzania. /2

Charanya, overwhelmed to get such a massive help, tweeted this to express her gratitude
Thank u ma'm for reaching out on this issue even though it wasn't directly brought to your attn. Admire the efficiency. (1/2)

The news was confirmed by the high commission of India in Tanzania through this tweet
