The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma ended the 11-yr drought of the ICC trophy by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 which was played in USA and West Indies. The former head coach Rahul Dravid also played an important role in this win as it was under his guidance that the team played the mega event.
The former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar showered praises on Rahul Dravid and in a column that he wrote, Little Master demanded the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna for Rahul Dravid.
The 51 years old Rahul Dravid has played 164 test matches in which he has scored 13288 runs, 344 ODIs in which he has scored 10889 runs and 1 T20I for the country, he served as the skipper as well and from 2021 to 2024, he served as the head coach of the Indian team.
Before becoming the head coach of India’s senior cricket team, Rahul Dravid also contributed as the head coach of the U-19 team and then he served as the chairman at National Cricket Academy as well.
In his column, Sunil Gavaskar wrote that it would be appropriate if the government of India honours Rahul Dravid with Bharat Ratna because that is what he has truly been. Sunil Gavaskar further wrote that he was a great player and a great skipper as well under whose leadership the Indian team won a series in West Indies in those times when winning over there meant a lot. Sunil Gavaskar said that he is one of the three Indian skippers who have led the team to a series win in England and then he groomed talent as the chairman of National Cricket Academy and then as the coach of the senior Indian team.
Little Master further wrote that Rahul Dravid’s achievements have brought happiness and joy to everyone irrespective of caste, creed, community, etc. because of which he deserves the highest prize that the country can give to him. Sunil Gavaskar also asks all the readers to raise their voices with him and demand Bharat Ratna for The Wall.
