We may have heard about the richest or the costliest cities of the world but what if we tell you about a village where every resident is a millionaire. Difficult to imagine, isn’t it? But it holds true for Huaxi village which is located in the Jiangsu province of China.
Huaxi is known as the richest village of China and its total population is just 2,000. All the citizens here have Rs. 85 lakhs each deposited in their bank accounts and not only this, every one of them has a luxury car along with a bungalow. Their salary goes in lakhs and Huaxi can easily leave behind any big city of the world when it comes to luxury and facilities.
However, it all comes with a catch too! A person living in Huaxi is rich till he/she is a resident of the village and if any day, an individual decides to leave the village, then he/she will lose all the richness and will become poor.
The administration of the village spends a lot to maintain its reputation of a rich village. As soon as a person becomes a resident of the village, the authority immediately provides him with a car and a bungalow. Anyone who wants to become a resident of this village has to get a job in any of the companies here and once that person gets a job, then his luxurious life starts. People working here get more than Rs. 10 lakhs salary annually while the bonus given to the employees is manifold in comparison to the salary.
Huaxi is just 2 hrs away from Shanghai and how successful this village is, can be ascertained by the fact that in the year 2003, it declared its annual income more than 9,000 crores. As per a report published in China Financial and Economic Publishing House in 2014, the businesses of steel production, textile and clothing are flourishing in this village and they are chief reasons for its high rate of growth. In the year 2015, the administration of the village announced that the annual salary of each resident has crossed Rs. 10 lakhs mark.
As you enter Huaxi, you get every modern facility of the world about which you may have only heard. The International luxury Long Wish hotel here has more than 826 rooms out of which more than 16 are Presidential suites. It has one Gold Presidential suite whose rent is around Rs. 10 lakhs per night.
You can find a statue made of pure gold on the 60th floor of Huaxi’s tallest building.
If you want to travel the village, you can hire a helicopter taxi which will show you the whole village in just few minutes.
The administration spends heavily to maintain its image of the richest village. One example is the skyscraper which was made in 2011 and the cost borne was Rs. 29 Arab. This skyscraper has 72 storeys and it has been named as Hanging Village of Huaxi. It is 328 meter tall which is 4 meter more than Eiffel Tower (324), 9 meter taller than the famous Chrysler building, New York, and 18 meter taller than The Shard, Central London.
You can also see the replicas of famous monuments of the world such as The Great Wall of China, Eiffel Tower etc. in a theme park situated in this village.
The Chinese government presents this village as their example of development but some people declare it as propaganda of the govt. The residents can cash only 30% of their salary while other benefits are given in the form of stock which again can’t be converted in cash. The majority part of the properties of residents is under the control of administration and once any citizen leaves the village, he/she loses right over it.
Huaxi is called a mysterious village as Press and media are not allowed to enter here without permission.
