Daman and Diu, the tiny Union Territory along the Arabian sea has become the 1st cashless region of India. Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, the Minister of State for Home has applauded the UT administration for making this region completely cashless.
Around 11,000 households were educated by 190 teams of trained volunteers for spreading the benefits of going cashless, said an official statement.
Praful Patel, the administrator of Daman and Diu launched this project in the presence of residents, government officers, bank officials and volunteers.
He said
“I am surprised that the teams approached nearly 11,000 households on the very first day. The volunteers explain the procedures to the residents and then take their signatures after ensuring that they have understood the system properly.”
These volunteers are educated about 7 methods of cashless transactions and they gave live demonstration to the households.
Patel added;
“The volunteers are supposed to explain to the people how the mobile app and other cashless transaction method work. They help residents by carrying out a cashless transaction using their mobile or credit/debit cards. The residents are also encouraged to try it in the presence of volunteers so that they can comfortably use it for future transactions.”
The main focus of this campaign is to educate around 80,000 laborers and their families who are employed in various industries across the region. They are also being educated about making payments through phone to beneficiaries and utilities.
Free Wi-Fi services have also been introduced in the administration recently and 32,000 tourists used over 3,500 GB data in the last 45 days. Ahir appreciated this initiative as it will help to promote the Digital India and e-transactions initiative promoted by the Center.
