Aamir Khan has gained a lot of appreciation for his movie “Dangal” all across the globe, however , there seems to be a wave of legal trouble. Yes, you heard it right; “Dangal” makers might face legal issues because there are some segments in the film which offended the real life coach of the phogat sisters, PR Sondhi.
Reports had quoted Sondhi as saying
“They have changed the name to PR Kadam in the film, but somewhere the character is loosely based on my life. I have known Mahavirji (Phogat, wrestling coach and father of Geeta and Babita Phogat) for many years and he is a thorough gentleman. His two daughters have trained under me for more than three years and not once did he interfere. I don’t understand the need to show the character as such a taskmaster. There were four other coaches, who were also involved (in the training), but they haven’t been shown in the film at all.”
Well, in “Dangal” there was a negative portrayal of the wrestling coach and this has irked Sondhi since the character revolves around him. As of now, PR Sondhi hasn’t watched the movie; he just announced that he might take legal action after watching it.
Further Sondhi also argued that the scene in “Dangal” is fictional and it was not similar to that of what happened in real life. In the film, it is shown that Mahavir has been locked in the room during the Games owing to which he can’t cheer for his daughters.
On this, Sondhi says
“Distortion of facts has hurt my reputation. Once I watch the film, I will speak to the wrestling federation. I also plan to meet Aamir and seek an explanation.”
The coach further alleged that Aamir had asked few questions in general, but the changes were never mentioned. Only time will decide whether Sondhi will put the makers into legal trouble or not.
