Ranjeet, the legendary Bollywood villain of the ’70s and ’80s, recently shared a shocking story from the past—a fierce altercation between Shatrughan Sinha and Sanjay Khan that escalated into gunfire, police involvement and an unforgettable night of tension.
During an interview, Ranjeet recalled how the incident unfolded at a high-profile party attended by several Bollywood celebrities, including Zeenat Aman. He was at home when he received news of the fight. It all started with a seemingly harmless gesture when Shatrughan Sinha placed his hand on Sanjay Khan’s cheek. The action, however, enraged Sanjay, who responded with a slap. As the situation intensified, actress Reena Roy’s outburst further fueled the confrontation, prompting Sanjay and his group, which included Bob Christo, to step outside.
At the time, Shatrughan had recently secured a role in the film Jwalamukhi after parting ways with Amitabh Bachchan. When news of the slap reached his associates, they hurried to Ranjeet’s house, armed and ready for retaliation. Ranjeet, who was in his den, chose not to intervene immediately but was soon alerted to the escalating chaos. His intercom buzzed and a friend warned him about gunshots being fired outside. The tension escalated as Shatrughan’s men, including Choudhry and Bipin, stormed Sanjay Khan’s residence, firing shots in the air and demanding him to come out.
Fearing for his safety, Sanjay sought shelter at Ranjeet’s house. When Ranjeet confronted him, Sanjay expressed disbelief that such violence was happening in the 21st century, even finding a bullet casing near his house. He was ready to take legal action but Ranjeet calmed him down, assuring him that an apology would likely resolve the matter.
As the standoff continued, Zeenat Aman arrived with a lawyer, adding to the growing tension. From his window, Ranjeet saw her stepping out of a car, while Shatrughan’s men and filmmaker Prakash Mehra’s associates were stationed around the area. The situation soon took a serious turn as police sirens blared, signaling their arrival. Sanjay had contacted the police, alleging that he was under attack.
A team of officers, including an ACP, entered Ranjeet’s home, where Sanjay explained his side of the story. He recounted how he had given Shatrughan a film role and how the situation had spiraled out of control. As things calmed down, Ranjeet left for work, only to find out later that evening that legendary actor Dilip Kumar had stepped in to mediate. Eventually, the police took Shatrughan Sinha and Prakash Mehra to the station for further questioning.
By the next morning, newspapers carried dramatic headlines suggesting a murder plot had been planned at Ranjeet’s house. Though filmmaker Subhash Ghai was not arrested, he did visit the Santa Cruz police station that night, adding another twist to the already sensational story.
The night remains one of the most talked about incidents in the history of Bollywood, a reminder of how emotions, egos, and misunderstandings can lead to unforgettable drama.
