Hrithik Roshan starrer “Krrish” franchise is undoubtedly one of the most successful franchises of the Indian cinema and fans have been eagerly waiting for updates on the much anticipated Krrish 4.
However, director Rakesh Roshan recently voiced concerns about the film’s grand scale and the challenges of securing the necessary budget. In an interview, he admitted that while the vision for “Krrish 4” is ambitious, financing such a large-scale project has been difficult.
Rakesh Roshan said in the interview, “Kaafi saal se wait kar rahe hain lekin mera budgeting ho nahi raha hai. Picture ka scale bada hai. Scale chota karta hoon toh ek aam picture lagti hai. The world has become smaller. Aaj kal ke jo bacche hain, voh superheroes ki pictures itni dekh chuke hain ki unhe thoda sa bhi kuch fault nazar aayega toh criticise karenge.”
Rakesh Roshan further added, “We have to be very careful. Aur hum uss paimaane (Marvel, DC) ki picture bana nahi sakte hain. Itne paise hote nahi hain humare paas. Our budget doesn’t allow us… Hume kahani pe zyada concentrate karna padta hai. Halaki bade bade sequences honge picture main par agar 10 nahi honge toh 2 honge ya 3 honge.”

He had previously mentioned in an old interview that the film is set to be the biggest in the franchise but budgeting remains a significant hurdle. Given that audiences are yet to return to theatres in large numbers, he sees this as a major challenge. The superhero genre has evolved, with Hollywood producing films on staggering budgets of 500-600 million dollars. In contrast, Indian filmmakers have to work within a much smaller range of Rs 200-300 crore, making it difficult to match global standards.
Despite these financial concerns, Rakesh Roshan reassured that “Krrish 4” is still in the pipeline, though they have decided to hold it off for now. The “Krrish” saga began with “Koi Mil Gaya” in 2003, starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta. It was followed by “Krrish” in 2006, with Hrithik and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. The franchise continued with “Krrish 3” in 2013, where Kangana Ranaut starred opposite Hrithik. While the next installment is inevitable, the team is taking their time to ensure they do justice to the film’s legacy.
