Sunrisers Hyderabad started the IPL 2025 with a bang but the team fumbled soon and now their campaign’s graph is going downward in a steep manner, especially after getting crushed by Gujarat Titans in their last match.
The SRH captain Pat Cummins acknowledged that it was tough to face Gujarat Titans’ pace attack after his team suffered a heavy seven-wicket defeat in their IPL 2025 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Hyderabad, after being put in to bat, could only manage 152 for 8 in their 20 overs — a total that proved insufficient against a clinical Gujarat chase.
Gujarat’s bowling unit was led by a fiery spell from Mohammed Siraj, who picked up a career-best 4 for 17. Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan also played their part by taking two wickets each, tightening the screws on SRH throughout the innings. Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as the top-scorer for Hyderabad with a steady 31, while Pat Cummins chipped in with a brisk cameo of 22 off just 9 balls, which included some late boundaries that took the team past the 150-mark.
After the game, Pat Cummins noted that the total felt underwhelming but pointed out that the Hyderabad pitch had its challenges. He remarked that despite minimal spin and a bit of dew in the air, the Gujarat bowlers were particularly difficult to play on the day, making scoring a challenge from the start.
In response, Gujarat chased down the target with authority, reaching it in just 16.4 overs. Captain Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 61, supported by a strong performance from Washington Sundar who made a notable debut for the Titans with a fluent 49. What’s more, Sherfane Rutherford’s quick 35* added the finishing touches.
Speaking after the match, Sundar expressed his delight at being trusted with a top-order role. He shared that his captain encouraged him to bat deep and aim to finish the match, something he embraced fully. Familiar with the conditions in Hyderabad, he said that the wicket tends to ease out for chasing sides, which worked in his favor. The all-rounder appreciated the rare opportunity to bat at number four and was satisfied with his time at the crease.
