The senior Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, celebrated for his unforgettable portrayal of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in the “Hera Pheri” franchise, recently shared his thoughts on the second installment and the much-anticipated “Hera Pheri 3”.
While “Phir Hera Pheri” retained the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh himself, the actor admitted that the sequel lacked the charm which made the first film a classic, despite its commercial success.
In a candid conversation, Paresh Rawal accepted that excessive confidence led to the sequel’s shortcomings. He expressed that the film lost its innocence due to an overstuffed narrative which compromised the simplicity of the original. He emphasised the importance of maintaining balance in storytelling, suggesting that audiences can be entertained without resorting to exaggerated gimmicks. He noted that humour should emerge organically rather than relying on extreme antics to provoke laughter.
Talking about his beloved character Baburao, Paresh Rawal observed that there was still untapped potential in the role. He compared the “Hera Pheri” sequel to “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”, a film he admires for its thoughtful character evolution. He pointed out that a well-crafted sequel should aim for meaningful progression rather than simply rehashing familiar jokes for financial gain. He praised films that take creative leaps, highlighting how impactful a sequel can be when executed with the right vision.
In recent developments, Paresh Rawal confirmed that Kartik Aaryan is no longer part of “Hera Pheri 3”. Addressing speculations, he revealed that the film’s storyline has undergone significant revisions and will now feature the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal himself. The much-awaited third installment is expected to begin filming around August or September.
With the core cast reuniting, fans of the “Hera Pheri” franchise can look forward to another chapter filled with humour, nostalgia and the signature chaos that has cemented the series as a cult favourite.
