A peon working in Gujarat Water Resources Development Corporation (GWRDC) Ltd, Gandhinagar, has been booked under five cases of disproportionate assets (DA) in Gandhinagar, Rajkot and Sabarkantha; the total value of the properties is said to be Rs. 14.17 crore. However, the major part is constituted by one case, the value of which is Rs. 11.56 crore. He owns three plots of land, an office space and three flats, a total of seven properties along with two cars.
The officials from ACB say that Hasmukh Rawal, who is a peon in GWRDC, has been found keeping assets disproportionate by around Rs 1.18 crore, after the officials checked his income sources and the properties that he purchased in between of April 2004 and March 2016. As per the details of the case, Rawal owns three plots of land at Isanpur and Chiloda, three properties at Riddhi Siddhi Apartment at Pethapur, Green Park Society and Ambika Apartment in Gandhinagar and a space for office in Radhe Square at Dholakuwa Crossroads.
In the words of an official,
“His wife was part of the Gandhinagar district panchayat. His assets are 202.33% of his known sources of income. A search at his residence on Saturday by a Mehsana unit fetched gold ornaments worth Rs 12.53 lakh and other valuables worth Rs 3.82 lakh.”
In a different case, a person known as Bharatgiri Goswami who works with the HR department of GSPC, has been named in a case of DA of Rs 11.56 crore, which is nearly 2,489.89% of his total income.
An official of ACB stated,
“Goswami was found to own an apartment in Akshar Apartments and a plot in Sector 1 at Gandhinagar, another plot at Kanva Society in Koba, seven pieces of farmland in Pethapur and a piece of farmland in Alampur near Gandhinagar. We have taken into consideration the period from 2004 to 2015 for the assessment.”
Some sources have revealed that Bharatgiri has already left the government dept. for joining a business house.
The Sabarkantha unit of ACB has also booked a person named Prakashchandra Patel, who works in Gujarat Land Development Corporation, Himmatnagar, as field assistant (land acquisition) for case of DA of around Rs 33.09 lakh, an amount which is 157.35% more than what he earned between 2008 and 2015.
As per an official,
“His properties include four agricultural land parcels, five residential plots, 70g of gold ornaments and one car.”
Anilkumar Makadia, who is deputy mamlatdar at Dhoraji, has also been booked by Rajkot (rural) team of ACB and he is said to have DA of around Rs 40.66 lakh which is more than 97.9% of what he earns.
This is definitely a good step taken by the ACB as it may reduce the corruption in the government departments. What do you say? Share your views with regard to it in the comments section below.
