In the world of cinema, the belief that “everything happens for a reason” often rings true. This sentiment also applies perfectly to the casting of pivotal roles that can shape an actor’s career. One such role is Munna Bhaiya from the popular action-thriller web series, Mirzapur. Divyenndu Sharma’s portrayal of this power-hungry, ruthless character has left a lasting impact. However, many might not know that he wasn’t the first choice for the role.
Munna Bhaiya is the son of Akhandanand Tripathi, better known as Kaleen Bhaiya, the crime lord of Mirzapur. From the very first season, Munna Tripathi became a character audiences loved to hate. His aggressive demeanor and profanity-laced dialogues resonated with younger viewers, quickly making him a memorable figure in Indian streaming content. As the series progressed, particularly in season 3, Munna’s character underwent a dramatic shift that shocked viewers, further solidifying Divyenndu Sharma’s place in the industry.
Interestingly, the first actor approached to play Munna Tripathi was Amit Sial, who eventually took on the role of Inspector Ram Sharan Maurya in the series. It seems that fate had different plans, as Divyenndu’s exceptional performance as Munna Bhaiya earned him widespread recognition and praise.
In an old interview, Amit Sial made this revelation that the role of Munna Bhaiya was first offered to him but he wouldn’t have looked convincing in that role (as son of Pankaj Tripathi) because of which it went to Divyenndu Sharma. Amit Sial also added that he is very pleased with the character that he played as it is also a classic character. Amit Sial praised Divyendu for his acting too and said that they both are good friends.
Before Mirzapur, Divyenndu Sharma appeared in films like “Pyaar Ka Punchnama”, “Dilliwali Zaalim Girlfriend” and “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha”. However, it was his role in Mirzapur that truly catapulted him into the spotlight, marking a significant turning point in his career and establishing him as a formidable talent in the industry.
Fans of the series can look forward to more drama as a new season of Mirzapur is already in development. As per actress Rasika Dugal who plays a key role in the series, the upcoming season promises even more intrigue and intensity.
