On Saturday, in Mumbai an incident has came into light which has once again showed the cruel face of humanity. A body of a new born baby was found in a drain, covered with a plastic and the body was partially eaten by rats. The doctors have confirmed to the police that the baby was dumped just after the birth as even the umbilical cord was not separated from the baby.
Pushpadas Shetty, a BMC worked founded the body around 6 pm in an open sewer drain which was near to the garbage collection location in close proximity to Himanshu Roy Amarsi Road.
An officer from Malad Police station told, “A BMC worker was relieving himself near the drain when he saw the body partially wrapped in a plastic bag. The police took the body to hospital where the doctors said that the baby was probably abandoned right after birth and that the umbilical cord was still attached to her.”
Police has filed a case under the IPC 318 which deals with hiding the birth by disposing of the body secretively and the search is on for the unidentified accused. An officer told, “We are checking records of the recent deliveries in hospitals in the area, and CCTV camera footage is being scanned. We suspect that the baby was abandoned on Friday night.”
The local people of the area are also shocked as how can anyone commit such cruelty to a newborn, one of the locales, Feroz Pathan stated that it is the work of a person from other area as he said, “It is obviously the work of someone who doesn’t reside here. I had never before witnessed such cruelty to a newborn.”
True, such cases compel us to think whether humanity exists in this world or not. How can a woman do this to the little one whom she carries in her womb for 9 months?
