As you are reading this article there are many girls being molested in the country. Despite giving a death sentence to Nirbhaya rapists, the crime doesn’t look stopping anytime soon. We’ve already learnt about 2 big cases in last 2 days and what can be worse than knowing about 1 more similar case in such a small time.
While the earlier cases were from Tamil Nadu & Gurugram, the latest one is from Mumbai, which is termed as India’s one of the most crime-free cities. The very fact that it has happened in Mumbai, tells us how serious the crime is getting day by day.
A report in The Hindu stated the Naupada Police’s statement as-
A 23-year old girl was molested by co-passenger and autorickshaw driver in Thane, Mumbai during the late evening hours. The girl who is a dietitian by profession took the auto from the Mulund Check Naka to go to her residence on the Pokhran Road in Thane (west) at around 9:45 pm on Wednesday and some distance ahead, felt her co-passenger, a man in his thirties, touching her inappropriately”.
The police officer was quoted as saying-
“The victim has said in her statement that she got scared and was contemplating getting out of the auto when she felt herself being pushed and fell out of the moving auto. She sustained injuries to her face and was rushed to the Jupiter Hospital, where she is currently admitted”.
The hospital authorities were quick to inform the police and a team was sent to record the victim’s statement.
The police officer quoted-
“We have registered an FIR of outraging a woman’s modesty, assault and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code against unidentified persons. A sketch of the accused has been prepared based on the description provided by the victim and we’re making inquiries with local informants and auto drivers who ply share autos at night between the Mulund Check Naka and the Pokhran Road stretch,”
While it’s good to see that investigation is happening, we hope to see some serious legal action asap. Also, this is high time to re-consider the penalties from a crime like this. A 10-second pain and then simple death is not enough for someone who dares to do such a terrible crime.
