A series of ‘Rest Studies’ is being conducted by NASA where it wants volunteers who can stay in bed for 70 days and smoke various kinds of cannabis. If a volunteer becomes successful in this, he would be awarded $18,000 i.e. around Rs.12.25 lakhs.
Apart from that participants would be allowed to Skype, read books and play games as they lie in bed and keep smoking.
This experiment is being conducted for finding ways to ensure good health and safety of the astronauts during extended space travel. Scientists wish to understand the effect of marijuana on the body. They also wish to notice the bodily changes during space travel.
There would be 2 groups of volunteers, non-exercising and exercising. In the former one, training exercises would be involved, while in the latter, there would be lot of comfort.
The study would last somewhere between 97 to 105 days, depending on which group the participants are from. For 1st 13 and 21 days, non-exercising and exercising volunteers would get the permission of moving freely inside the bed facility.
However, after this period, they would have to remain on bed for seventy days straight and go through various tests including immunity, nutritional, circulatory, nervous, muscle, bone or heart tests.
