Nestle India has got huge relief as their Maggi Noodles has been declared safe to consume by a laboratory which is approved by the Central Food Authority FSSAI. Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), which is in Mysore, conducted tests on five samples of Maggi which were sent to it by Goa Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Maggi noodles were banned in June in various states of the country as the tests conducted on its samples revealed that the amount of lead and MSG was more than the allowed limit.
Salim A Veljee, the Director of Goa FDA said, “CFTRI finding shows that samples are in compliance with the food safety standards as per the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011.”
The month of June saw Maggi being withdrawn from the market as FSSAI termed it as “unsafe and hazardous” and not at all suitable to be consumed by humans. FSSAI alleged that Nestle has not followed the rules and regulations for labeling regarding the taste enhancer MSG and it instructed the company to give a compliance report.
Goa FDA needed to send the samples to FSSAI approved CFTRI, as FSSAI was doubtful about the report submitted by Goa FDA. In Goa FDA’s reports, findings declared that level of lead was inside the allowed limits.
Suresh Narayanan, the new Chief of Nestle India has said that his top most priority is to bring Maggi back to the market and he wants to pacify the situation with the authorities.
