A suspected member of the terrorist outfit al-Qaida has been arrested by Delhi Police in Bengaluru, sources said on Friday.
As per the sources, an arrest was made by the Delhi Police in Bengaluru and the person arrested is suspected to be a member of the terrorist organization, al-Qaida. The person’s name is being told Maulana Anzar Shah and he was taken into custody on Wednesday night.
If the sources are to be believed, he was planning for a series of terror attacks in the country. “The aim of the group was to attack some prominent leaders along with the crowded and tourist places,” sources revealed.
Maulana was arrested by Delhi police’s anti-terrorist Special Cell wing under its ongoing operation against al-Qaida in the Indian sub-continent (AQIS). They have brought Maulana to Delhi on transit remand and he will be presented in the Patiala House court on Friday.
Last year in December, the special cell got succeeded in catching two AQIS operatives Zafar Masood and Abdul Rehman and Maulana’s name came up in the interrogation of these two.
As maintained by the sources, Mohammed Asif, another terrorist has also admitted that he met Maulana in Bengaluru at a religious congregation. Shah was asked to give logistical support by AQIS operatives and that is why he reactivated himself and the details of the monetary transactions between Maulana and AQIS operatives are also with Special Cell.
