The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir was the frontrunner for the job of India’s new head coach and as expected, he has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian team now and his tenure will start from the Sri Lankan tour which will take place in the end of this month.
In 2024, Gautam Gambhir returned to the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders as mentor and helped them in winning their third IPL title after a decade. Interestingly, the earlier two trophies that KKR won were won in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
However, Gambhir quit KKR in less than two months of winning the title and now he has a bigger responsibility on his shoulders.
There is no denying the fact that KKR will certainly miss the services of Gautam Gambhir who played an important role in KKR’s IPL 2024 win and when the KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit was asked about it, he said that obviously yes, they will miss Gambhir and they shared good rapport, they used to discuss strategies and planning with the skipper in order to make better combinations. Pandit said that they will certainly miss that good communication.
Chandrakant Pandit said that they are very happy with Gautam Gambhir being appointed as the head coach of the Indian team and he is sure that Gambhir will do a great job as he has been doing for the last few years. Pandit stated that Gambhir has played an important role in the triumphs of KKR and he also played a great role in India’s World Cup wins (2007 and 2011). Pandit further said that Gautam Gambhir is the right choice as he has good amount of experience and he is really happy for the BCCI.
Chandrakant Pandit also said that he messaged and congratulated Gambhir when the BCCI announced his appointment. As per him, it is a prestigious job and Gambhir will be playing prestigious role for the country. Pandit further said that he is very happy for Gambhir and he also messaged him back.
As per some reports, Gambhir has recommended the BCCI to hire Abhishek Nayar who is currently employed as the assistant coach with KKR and when Pandit was asked about it, he said that it is also in the news. Pandit further said that Nayar has done a great job with KKR in the last few years and he was equally valued to them. Chandrakant Pandit is of the opinion that if anyone is getting a chance to excel in their career, they should be happy about it.
Expectations are pretty high from Gautam Gambhir and we hope that he will fulfill all of them.
