The fabulous series of Baahubali by Rajamouli kept the whole star cast of the magnum opus engaged for five long years; however, this period was the most difficult for Sathyaraj who portrayed the character of Katappa in the franchisee. If you have watched the first installment, (which you most probably had), you must be knowing the reason behind this. “Baahubali: The Beginning” undoubtedly gave Indian Cinema a cult which was acclaimed world-wide but at the same time, it left fans with a question and they had to wait for about two years to know the answer.
But how did this situation become more problematic for Sathyaraj aka Katappa?
Well, despite the fact that Sathyaraj’s family had been asking him about the ultimate secret, he kept it well-guarded even from the family members and surprisingly, his family also got to know the answer only when the second installment of the series hit the theatres.
Divya, Sathyaraj’s daughter as well as a well-known nutritionist, told DC,
“I think that was the only secret he kept from me because we are the best of friends and tell each other everything. We knew the secret only when we watched the film. I have already seen the film twice and will be watching it with my granny (dad’s mom) and dad again.”
Even though his kids bullied him to reveal the secret, somewhere in their conscience, they knew that Sathyaraj wouldn’t disclose anything in this relation. Divya further told DC,
“I did not ask him about it even once and neither did my mom or Sibi. I did bully him once though saying I would tell all my friends! Sibi and I would play guessing games in front of dad. He would simply smile and say nothing. Even if we had pestered him, he wouldn’t have told any of us.”
Divya was very excited about her father’s role in Baahubali and her excitement could easily be noticed with what she stated,
“A while ago, a friend of mine sent me a video, which had the Honourable PM, Narendra Modi mentioning ‘Kattappa’, in one of his speeches. I was very excited after watching the video. I knew Baahubali would be a big film and we are very happy that it has broken all records.”
Here’s what Divya told Deccan Chronicle regarding her closeness with Sathyaraj,
“My dad has always narrated scripts to me since I was 10 — and has always asked my mom, brother and I our opinions on them. When he narrated the one liner from Baahubali, I loved it but was not sure if he should do the film because he had to be in Hyderabad for a long time. I am not used to him staying away for that long — his outdoor schedules have always been for song shoots, which usually last a week or two.”
Kudos to the whole team of Baahubali for putting in their best and give the country a movie with an unmatched charisma!
