Washington Sundar is undoubtedly a talented cricketer but he can be called a little unlucky in terms of getting chances to display his talent.
Ahead of Gujarat Titans’ match against Rajasthan Royals, all-rounder Washington Sundar found himself navigating an uncomfortable moment during a pre-match press conference. A reporter brought up his limited appearances in the previous IPL season and referenced a supposed quote that didn’t sit well with Sundar.
While the reporter asked Sundar that he had to wait till the fourth game of the season and then the reporter quoted a commentator who said that Washington Sundar played two games last season and only 14 international games. The visibly upset cricketer felt that the reporter implied that it was he who talked about his own limited appearances but things turned fine when the reporter clarified that the comment was made by a commentator on air.
After the brief tension, Sundar regained his composure and spoke about his focus on preparation. He shared that being part of the Titans has been a rewarding experience, particularly due to the team’s intense training sessions. He credited the coaching staff for pushing players to improve in all the areas of the game, which helps him stay ready for any opportunity that comes his way.
That opportunity came in Gujarat’s recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting at number four, Sundar delivered a solid performance, scoring 49 runs off 29 balls. His partnership of 90 runs with captain Shubman Gill was central to the team’s successful chase of 153, which they completed with ease.
Although he didn’t bowl in that match, prompting questions about his role this season, Sundar’s contribution with the bat was enough to show that he remains a valuable asset for the team.
