The IPL team Mumbai Indians’ hopes of a strong comeback in the IPL 2025 have taken a hit as Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the initial weeks of the tournament. Reports indicate that the ace Indian pacer may not be available for the first few matches and is likely to join the team next month.
Jasprit Bumrah has been undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after missing the Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. While his medical reports are satisfactory, sources suggest that he is yet to regain full bowling intensity.
According to an insider, Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling but is unlikely to be match-ready in time for the IPL’s start. A more realistic return date is projected for early April, meaning he could miss three to four games for Mumbai.
The medical team is taking a cautious approach, gradually increasing his workload to avoid any setbacks. Until he can bowl at full intensity without discomfort for a sustained period, he will not receive clearance to play.
Adding to the list of injury concerns, Lucknow Super Giants pacer Mayank Yadav is also set to miss the first four matches of the season, with plans to join his team later in the tournament.
Looking ahead, India’s tour of England for a five-match Test series beginning on June 20 remains the primary focus. With the selectors closely monitoring Jasprit Bumrah and fellow pacer Mohammed Shami, the priority is ensuring that both the players are available for at least two to three Tests.
Given the uncertainty surrounding Rohit Sharma’s future beyond the Champions Trophy, discussions are already surfacing about Jasprit Bumrah potentially taking over as the next Test captain.
With the IPL set to be a physically demanding tournament, how Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami manage their fitness during the season will play a crucial role in shaping India’s plans for the England tour.
