The latest news from the food industry is that Maggi noodles are back and its online sales has been a great hit. Maggi noodles were banned from the Indian market as the level of lead and MSG was found to be more in its samples than the permissible limit.
However, there are still many products that are banned in the other countries of the world but they are being sold in India without any problem, here is the list of some of the products:
Honey
The newspaper daily, The Hindu came up with a story in 2010 which said that the branded honey that is being sold in India is infected. After this, Centre for Science and Environment tested honey products of 12 companies which included Himalaya, Dabur, Patanjali, Baidyanath, Khadi and two foreign companies which were based in Australia and Switzerland. The finding of these tests was shocking as the levels of harmful antibiotics in 11 samples were very high.
The foreign countries have very strict compliances when it comes to the parameter of quality of product, either they have banned the antibiotics or they have been very strict with the use of antibiotics in honey by regulating it. So it simply means that most of the Indian companies are using double standards by exporting good quality products and selling infectious products in the local Indian market, as there is lack of regulations or the regulations are not imposed strictly.
The director of CSE, Sunita Narain said this to a newspaper, “It is clear that foreign companies are taking advantage of the lack of regulations in India. After all, if our government does not care about the health of its people, why should these companies care?”
Drugs
Many medicines which are sold easily in Indian market and are very common in use are prohibited in most of the developed countries, here is the list of such medicines Novalgin, D-Cold, Enteroquinal, Furoxone and Lomofen (anti-diarrheal), Nimulid, Analgin (pain killer), Ciza and Syspride, (acidity and constipation), Nimesulide (painkiller) and Buclizine (appetite stimulant).
India’s best-selling car Maruti-Suzuki Alto 800
Maruti Suzuki’s Alto 800, Tata’s Nano and Hyundai’s i10, these three brands of cars is sold in a good number in India but they can’t be sold in foreign countries. Global NCAP conducted a test of crash on these cars and they failed it. As per the results, the structure of these cars doesn’t provide enough security to the persons who are sitting inside the car. In fact, the airbags also won’t be able to protect the occupants from serious injuries, in case of any accident or life threatening situation. However, these cars are being sold in India with all these deficiencies.
Pesticides
There are 67 pesticides which are sold and used in India but they are either banned or their use has been restricted in foreign countries. Central government constituted committees which had experts and they advised use of some pesticides and restriction on some pesticides. List of pesticides used in India but not outside – Carbaryl, Malathion, Acephate, Dimethoate, Chlorpyrifos, Lindane, Quinalphos, Phosphomidon, Carbandizm, Captan, Tridamorph, Practilachlor, 2.4–D and Glyphosate.
Kinder Surprise
Don’t mistake Kinder Surprise with Kinder Joy as Kinder Surprise is banned in USA and not Kinder Joy. Anyone who will try to take Kinder Surprise to USA will be slapped with a fine of $2500 per illegal Kinder egg. As there is a toy kept inside the candy, there is supposed to be a risk of kid getting choked if he eats the toy with candy by mistake.
