In a world where long commutes are a dreaded part of daily life, an Indian-origin woman has found an extraordinary solution—flying to work every day. Racheal Kaur, an assistant manager at AirAsia, has become known as a “super commuter” for choosing to travel by air between Penang and Kuala Lumpur instead of renting a home near her office.
For Racheal Kaur, this unique routine is not just about convenience but a conscious effort to maintain a balance between her professional responsibilities and her role as a mother. With two growing children, she believes it is essential to be present for them every evening. Her daily flights allow her to return home every night, something she couldn’t do when she previously lived in Kuala Lumpur and only visited Penang once a week.
Her day begins at 4:00 am as she prepares for work, reaching the airport by 5:00 am to board a 5:55 am flight. By 7:45 am, she is at her office, ready to start her day. After work, she takes an evening flight back, landing at home around 8:00 pm to spend time with her children.

What makes this even more remarkable is that flying every day is actually a more cost-effective option for her. Previously, her expenses for food and accommodation amounted to $474 (Rs 42,000) per month, but with her new routine, she has managed to cut it down to $316 (Rs 28,000). The flights not only help her save money but also offer her moments of solitude, allowing her to relax, listen to music and reflect on her life during the journey.
Racheal Kaur’s story has gained global attention as an inspiring example of unconventional work-life balance. By defying traditional commuting norms, she has proven that sometimes, thinking out of the box — or in this case, above the clouds — can lead to a more fulfilling life.
