The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is currently being played in USA and West Indies, while ICC is not happy with empty stadiums in West Indies, the drop-in pitches in USA are also a big concern as they are unsafe for the players.
The drop-in pitch at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York has attracted a lot of criticism as it has shown uneven bounce and two Indian batters – Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant got hit by the ball while batting in India’s first match which they played against Ireland.
While Rohit Sharma got hit in his right bicep after which he got retired hurt, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant got hit at his elbow. Many former cricketers termed the drop-in pitch which was made in Adelaide, Australia, as sub-standard and unsafe for the cricketers.
Now the apex cricket body has taken notice of the sluggish pitches and has issued a statement which read, “T20 Inc and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted.”
It also promised that the team of experts is working hard in order to find the solution to the problem. The statement read, “The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches.”
As per the schedule, the Indian team has to play 3 out of 4 league matches at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York. It has already won its first league match which was played against Ireland and now it will face Pakistan in their second league match which will be played on 9 June.
Meanwhile Pakistan must be low on confidence after losing a league match to USA which is playing in the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time.
Let’s hope that the team of experts is able to provide a solution to the pitch problem before India vs Pakistan match.
