Couple of days back, an audio clip was circulated by a Tech Mahindra employee; in that, we could hear the discussion between him and the HR over submitting exit papers by next day 10 am. That clip shocked us, especially the statement “Quit yourself or you will be fired”.
Social media users were pissed off with the way the employee was getting sacked. Some humanity is needed right? How can an employee, who has served the company for so many years, be removed without any sort of prior notice?
Many slammed Tech Mahindra for showing no empathy towards the employee. We can understand that they were doing this for “Cost optimization” (As told by the HR), but there should be a systematic process.
Well, we had a doubt that the clip was unauthentic, but now, it’s confirmed that the employee was actually asked to quit in a day’s notice. This was clarified after Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group and CP Gurnani, the Managing Director, took to Twitter to publicly apologize over this incident.
Have a look at their tweets;
Firstly, Gurnani released an official statement on Twitter!
I deeply regret the way the HR rep & employee discussion was done. We have taken the right steps to ensure it doesn’t repeat in the future. pic.twitter.com/KKLt6tIBb6

The statement read,
“I deeply regret the way the HR rep & employee discussion was done. We have taken the right steps to ensure it doesn’t happen in the future.
Tech Mahindra has always regarded respect for colleagues, fairness and human dignity as core values, and has demonstrated these consistently over the years. We have become aware of the incident involving a conversation between and employee and a Company HR representative.
We continue to implement strategies to implement the changing demands of business in the current global economic environment and align with our workforce with the business objectives, strategic priorities of the organisations, and requirements of our clients. This however, will be done in a manner that benefits our rise philosophy and our Group’s core values.”
Following him, even Aanand Mahindra apologized.
I want to add my personal apology. Our core value is to preserve the dignity of the individual & we'll ensure this does not happen in future https://t.co/yBxAxvFZlc

If you haven’t heard the audio clip, here it is…

It this case, social media proved to be savior. It was because of the audio clip that we came to know about how employees are treated in big IT companies. This might not be the case in other companies, but the recording surely hints towards harassment at workplace, isn’t it?
What do you have to say about this?
