After winning the five-match T20I series against England with a 4-1 margin, the Indian men’s cricket team is all set to take on England in the three-match ODI series.
Led by Jos Buttler, the England team will face India in matches scheduled for February 6, 9 and 12 in Nagpur, Cuttack and Ahmedabad, respectively. This series will serve as crucial preparation for both the teams ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan and one in Dubai.
The Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma, who has been struggling with form in recent Test matches, will lead India in the ODIs. Several key players including Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Kuldeep Yadav are making a return to the 50-over format. However, many of the top performers from the T20I series will not be part of this squad, marking significant changes in the team composition.
Ten players from the T20I squad will not feature in the ODI series. Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube, Ramandeep Singh, Rinku Singh and Dhruv Jurel are all missing from the lineup. While some of them played throughout the T20I series, others got limited opportunities or did not feature at all.
Replacing them are experienced names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul, all of whom last played during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Kuldeep Yadav and Shreyas Iyer will also return after missing several matches in recent months.
Meanwhile, a few players from the T20I squad have retained their spots for the ODIs. Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana will continue to be part of the team. Among them, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are expected to play key roles, while the others will be competing for a place in the final playing XI.
