These days, many fashion freaks prefer the Bollywood way of dressing. Yes, when we talk about Bollywood, the costumes designed for actors are so heavy and expensive, that they attract attention very quickly. However, have you ever wondered what happens to those costumes once the shoot is over? Well, we are sure many of you don’t know! Let us tell you!
They end up in ‘Petis’!
After the shoot is over, these costumes end up being locked in ‘Petis’ and kept in dark places, where they are almost forgotten. Can you believe it? Yes, famous designer Ayesha Khanna says
“At Yash Raj, all the costumes are stacked in petis. Each peti is labelled so that you know exactly for which film the lead stars, supporting cast and the extras wore the clothes. Later, for another film, things get mixed and matched.”
Costumes are reused!
Then when the producers feel these can be used further, they take it, mix and match it with other clothes and use it for junior artists! Yes, they do it so perfectly that no one realizes that the costume has been reused. Ayesha says
“Aishwarya Rai’s Kajra Re item number outfit from the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli was used on a background dancer in Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010. It was mixed and matched. The choli was worn with another ghaghra, so it was impossible that anyone will notice it.”
Well, sometimes, the actors and actresses decide to take it with them!
However, not all outfits land up in those boxes. Sometimes, actresses and actors choose to take their favorite outfit with them. Although they don’t have an intention of wearing it in public, they take it just for memory sake. Yes, they actually seek the permission of the designer or producer and take the outfit with them.
The designers might be taking it along!
What if a high-end designer is hired for making outfits? They might be taking it along with them, isn’t it? Yes, designers like Anju Modi or Manish Malhotra might be taking their outfits back with them. Remember the 35-kg emerald green gown that Anushka Sharma wore in Bombay Velvet? Well, it was designed by Niharika Bhasin Khan and do you think she would have left it back? Obviously not!
Sometimes the outfits are auctioned!
Sometimes, in order to raise money for charity purpose, these outfits are auctioned. Yes, if it is the costume of a famous actor or actress, it certainly gets expensive bids. One example was that of Aishwarya and Rajnikanth’s outfits from the movie ‘Robot’ which were auctioned for raising money for an NGO.
