The Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fame actor Gurucharan Singh has been making headlines for quite some time now but for all the wrong reasons. Earlier he went missing for some days and when he returned, it was revealed that he is facing financial problems. Some time back, it was reported that he stopped eating and his health was deteriorating but then one of his friends gave the good news that she has found some work for Gurucharan and now he has started eating.
Gurucharan Singh recently confirmed that he approached Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Asit Kumarr Modi for work when they met in 2024. He admitted discussing the possibility of returning to the show but acknowledged that stepping back into his previous role as Roshan Singh Sodhi was unlikely, as Balvinder Singh Suri has been portraying the character for four years now.
Gurucharan Singh explained that while his audience continues to miss and support him, he shares the sentiment that replacing an actor who has been a part of the show for a long time would not be fair. He emphasised that he does not want to take away anyone’s livelihood and respects the decision to maintain continuity in the role.
In his conversation with Asit Kumarr Modi, Gurucharan Singh also expressed interest in working behind the scenes. Drawing from his own experience as an actor, he suggested that he could contribute by addressing concerns faced by the cast and ensuring a smooth working environment, helping retain talent on the show.
Financial difficulties have been a concern for Gurucharan Singh, as he has a debt of Rs 1.2 crore. In light of this, he is actively seeking work opportunities and is open to exploring reality shows, whether as a judge or participant. He believes audiences would enjoy seeing him in a different setting and is keen to take up projects that align with his strengths. Gurucharan Singh also talked about the success of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and said that the show’s family-friendly appeal and widespread popularity played a big role in its success.
Having been a part of the show’s original cast, Gurucharan Singh played Roshan Singh Sodhi, a lively and affectionate character who became a fan favourite. Although he left in 2012, he returned the following year due to popular demand, before finally exiting in 2020. His role was then taken over by Balwinder Singh Suri, who has continued portraying the character since.
