MS Dhoni might be considered by many as the best finisher of the world but as per Gautam Gambhir, it is Virat and not Dhoni who deserves this tag. Gambhir stated that the tag has been given by media but for him, Virat is a finisher. He feels that an opener too can be the finisher. Gambir adds that it is not necessary that the finisher must be a number six or number seven batsman.

A captain can only plan, but the other 10 players have to go out and execute
As a matter of fact Gambhir went ahead to state that Dhoni must be quite clear about where he wishes to bat in the order. Gambhir states that “If only good captaincy wins you World Cups, we would have won more World Cups. We have won only three.”
Highlighting the T20 World Cup that would start on Tuesday, Gambhir said it is crucial to have Yuvraj in good form. Talking about his own approach, Gautam stated that he likes maintaining a calm behavior but wouldn’t shy away from a showdown if need arises. He was seen arguing with Kohli during IPL season in 2013.
Gambhir states that one shouldn’t take these comments personally and also stated that he isn’t there for friendships. He wouldn’t feel shy if he has to argue again. For him, it doesn’t matter who is playing on the other side, be it Virat or Dhoni. If Gambhir is the captain, the way he plays, the team would play the same. If he is subdued, even the team would be subdued.
For Gautam, Australia is a bigger challenge
Gautam states that “Playing Australia was actually a bigger challenge as compared to competing against Pakistan even though the clash between the 2 Asian neighbors is more hyped.” Further, he adds that his views are different from those of his teammates who wished to win the trophy for Sachin.
Country is much bigger than any individual
He says “Playing for country itself is a big motivation. It was tough to watch it on TV and not defending. But I live in present. When I play Ranji, I want Delhi to win, when I play for KKR, I want my side to win.”
