Emraan Hashmi, the Bollywood actor is known for his serial kisser image but with time he has started playing different types of roles and recently in a podcast, he opened up on his journey in Bollywood and various ups and downs that he went through.
Emraan Hashmi is from a filmy background but his grandmother Purnima Das Verma was not happy with his decision of pursuing acting as his looks are quite different from the conventional looks.
Purnima Das Verma had worked in black and white movies and she was best known for her role of Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in “Zanjeer”. Talking about his grandmother’s fear, Emraan Hashmi said, “She was scared. She didn’t think I could do acting. She had seen so many ups and downs in her life that she was scared for me.”
Talking about his entry in Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi said, “Sometimes what happens is that you come into the industry, your film gets launched, and then the audience rejects you overnight. This has happened to a lot of people.”
Things changed considerably for Emraan Hashmi when his uncle Mahesh Bhatt decided to launch him and this also made his grandmother a little relaxed as Bhatt’s belief in Hashmi convinced her that her grandson stands a chance to succeed in Bollywood.
Emraan Hashmi said, “Mahesh Bhatt said, ‘I believe he can be an actor, I will launch him,’ and that’s when she felt at ease.”
Emraan Hashmi also talked about Mahesh Bhatt’s no nonsense approach as he threatened Emraan of throwing out if he can’t act. Emraan said, “Mahesh Bhatt was quite clear before starting our first film together. He told me, ‘We are not a charitable association. If you can’t act and if the audience doesn’t like your performance, I won’t hesitate to throw you out of the film.’”
This strict approach of Mahesh Bhatt further compelled Emraan to work on his skills and while talking about his debut movie “Footpath” (2003), he said, “My schedule was just seven days for Footpath. However, they were so impressed with my acting that two days later, they held a special screening for my grandmother.”
Emraan also revealed that Mahesh Bhatt told his grandmother, “You thought he couldn’t act, but there is a star born in the family.”

Since then, Emraan has acted in many movies and recently the second season of his web series, “Showtime” got released in which his performance is getting praised by the audiences.
