Yesterday, the Delhi Police detained Crazy Sumit (The YouTuber famous for kiss-and-run prank) and Satyajeet Kadian, the cameraman for their cheap and low-level prank that was not at all acceptable on social media. We all were happy to hear that this crap would finally come to an end since he is arrested. But no; today the cops have let the two off.
This is after Sumit gave an explanation that the whole prank was pre-planned and the girls were not strangers but from their own friend circle. In this prank, Sumit had kissed many girls, be it in the malls, on the streets and other public places and called it as a “PRANK”; this had sparked disgust, but the YouTuber claims that he had taken permission from girls before shooting the video.
Sumit said that the main aim of shooting such videos was to earn money through maximum views on YouTube. According to reports by TOI, Sumit claimed that he earned Rs 70,000 from the video, as it had got around 1 lakh views (Sounds impossible but he claimed it).
Even though the whole prank was pre-planned, the team can be booked on the basis of obscenity in public places. Ravindra Yadav, the Joint Commissioner stated that over 35 clips were uploaded in the last year out of which this kiss and run prank got over 1 lakh views.
Investigation was carried out by a team led by DCP Bhisham Singh and as per the the findings, the videos were shot only with the intention of shocking viewers. Sumit said, “Abroad, it’s become a trend to shoot shocking videos that could be vulgar and even here, they earn more money if they produces such videos.”
Police even asked YouTube to intervene in this investigation, on which the spokesperson said
“YouTube’s Community Guidelines prohibit content featuring things like harassment, hate speech, shocking or disturbing content, illegal acts, and graphic violence, and we give our users tools to flag content so that we can review and remove anything that violates our policies. We also comply with valid legal requests from authorities wherever possible, consistent with our longstanding policy.”
Singh said that he’ll stop making videos if the Censor Board orders him. It has been 1.5 years since he’s running the channel for prank videos and he has been awarded by YouTube too, for getting 1 lakh subscribers.
As of now, the cops have left them and the videos have been taken down, for violating the guidelines. According to them, the girls were their friends and were actively involved in the making of the videos. But police still needs to talk to those girls to verify that Sumit’s statement is correct and they were part of his team. I guess, only further investigation can help in clearing doubts.
