Cricketers are expected to follow a particular code of conduct and if they fail in doing so, heavy penalties are applicable.
Something similar happened with these 2 Bangladeshi cricketers. Batsman Sabbir Rahman and Al-Amin Hossain have to bear the brunt of their carelessness and have to pay a penalty of $15,000, for “Serious off-field disciplinary breaches”.
Yes, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has levied a fine on these 2 players, because they allegedly called over female guests in their hotel rooms.
This incident happened during the BPL Twenty20 Tournament, as per a statement by BCB. However, details of the charges against Al-Amin and Sabbir weren’t mentioned; the only thing which was reported was that during the tour these players entertained female guests in their hotel rooms.
Bangladesh Cricket Board stated
“The players have been reminded of their responsibility as national cricketers and have been warned that any repetition of similar acts of indiscretion in the future will result in harsher penalty.”
7 franchises are playing in this recent series and big names like Kumar Sangakkara, Chris Gayle and Shahid Afridi are also included.
This fine has broken the previous records; BCB never imposed such a heavy penalty on players for breaching discipline.
Al Amin’s fine- 50% of his BPL contract money for playing for Barisal Bulls
Sabbir’s fine- 30% of his pay from Rajshahi Kings.
Even Afghan Cricketer Mohammad Shahzad and Sabbir had to pay 15% of their match fees owing to an on-field quarrel. Shahzad nudged Sabbir with his bat, when he got dismissed and saw him celebrating it.
