The former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has started his new innings as the head coach of the Indian cricket team and his first assignment with team India is the Sri Lanka tour on which both the teams will play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs.
The expectations are pretty high from Gautam Gambhir as just before the T20 World Cup 2024, he played an important role in Kolkata Knight Rider’s success campaign in the IPL 2024; he was associated with the team as their mentor.
Gautam Gambhir has replaced Rahul Dravid who was known for his calm and composed attitude but the former is known for wearing his passion on his sleeves and doesn’t mind in taking the opposition players head on.
We have already witnessed the on-field spats of Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli quite a few times and some cricket experts are of the opinion that Gautam Gambhir’s entry in the dressing room may create some unpleasant situations as both the cricketers are pretty aggressive.
However, the former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra who also belongs to Delhi just like Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli doesn’t feel so. While interacting with a sports journalist, Nehra said, “Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are two very passionate individuals. Whenever they play for a team, they can turn up against the opposition. But, when they are together in a dressing room, they are together, united for the team. You’re talking about Virat Kohli, who has an experience of over 16-17 years, Gautam Gambhir is also experienced. The things on the outside, people get an impression about it. It’s not just Gambhir and Kohli, there are so many players who have had on-field spats in the past, but when they play together for a team, they have done well as a player, as a coach-captain, as a coach and senior player.”
Ashish Nehra also praised Gautam Gambhir for being upfront and transparent, he said, “Gautam Gambhir is upfront, transparent which is great. He keeps it clear and speaks his mind. That’s very important. Yes, I agree, everybody has their own style (of coaching), to operate with the coach, captain and player. I don’t see any problem with these two and where they are in their careers.”
