There is no denying the fact that the Indian film industry is currently in shock after AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu announced separation after 29 years of marriage.
Raheema and Khatija, daughters of AR Rahman and Saira Banu, have joined their brother AR Ameen in addressing their parents’ separation. Following Saira Banu’s announcement on Tuesday that she and the Oscar-winning composer are parting ways after 29 years of marriage, the siblings have requested privacy as the family navigates this difficult period.
Yesterday, a statement was issued by Saira Banu through her lawyer Vandana Shah. The statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time.”
Raheema took to Instagram Story and requested privacy and respect from everyone on this matter. She wrote, “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter would be treated with utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.”
Khatija also made a post in which she also requested privacy in these tough times.
The separation has come as a surprise to fans, many of whom admired the couple’s nearly three-decade-long bond. Married in 1995, Rahman and Saira have raised three children together- Khatija, Raheema and Ameen. Their children’s statements reflect a desire to handle the situation privately, asking fans and media for understanding during this time.
Despite the emotional turmoil, AR Rahman remains committed to his work. The acclaimed music composer is currently engaged in several high-profile projects, including Chhaava, Thug Life, Lahore 1947 and Genie.
Fans are eagerly anticipating Rahman’s musical contributions to these films, a testament to his ability to stay focused on his craft even during personal challenges.
