The Indian cricket team finally ended the 11-yr drought of the ICC trophy as recently they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after defeating South Africa in the final match of the tournament which was played on 29 June 2024 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
Prior to this, India won the ICC trophy in 2013 when the Indian team won the Champions Trophy under the leadership of MS Dhoni and since then, India was waiting to win an ICC trophy.
The Indian team has won the T20 World Cup second time, 17 years after winning the 2007 T20 World Cup which India won under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. Rohit Sharma has become the third Indian captain to win the World Cup trophy for the country after Kapil Dev (1983) and MS Dhoni (2007 & 2011) and this has also helped the cricketers and fans in forgetting the sad memories of the T20 World Cup 2022 and the ODI World Cup 2023.
MS Dhoni who is also called Thala by his fans usually stays away from social media networks and people get to know about him through the posts which are made by his wife Sakshi Dhoni.
However, after India won the T20 World Cup 2024, MS Dhoni took to his Instagram account and made a post which read, “WORLD CUP CHAMPIONS 2024. My heart rate was up, well done on being calm, having the self belief and doing what u guys did. From all the Indians back home and everywhere in the world a big thank you for bringing the World Cup Home. CONGRATULATIONS. arreeee thanks for the priceless birthday gift”.
Here is the post:
In just one day, the post has received more than 13 lakh likes and numerous comments.
However, the ardent fans of MS Dhoni noticed one word, “Priceless” in his post and they got reminded of his old interview in which Mandira Bedi asked him what is the most priceless gift that he has got and he said that he is still waiting. When Mandira said that he must have got something, he said that when you tell people, they stop giving you gifts.
Here is the video of the event in which MS Dhoni talked about waiting for a priceless gift and it was shared by an X user with the caption, “Man waited this long for his most priceless gift”.
