A 23 year lady has murdered a 17 year girl in Kolkata, the reason being the latter refused the former’s marriage proposal. In one of its kind same-sex relationship crime case, the police is looking for Mandira who is considered as the main accuse for the murder of Rinki Shaw.
DCP Sudeep Sarkar (Port Division) said, “It’s a rare kind of murder where a lesbian lover killed another woman because her proposal was rejected. Investigations revealed that the assailant, Mandira, proposed marriage to Rinki Shaw.”
However Rinki didn’t agreed to Mandira’s proposal and told her that her family is fixing her marriage with a neighborhood youth which angered Mandira and she attacked Rinki many times with a sharp knife.
In the last three years, at least three couples of same sex have given their lives in Kolkata and its adjoining areas, following the resistance of their families to their relationships.
This also includes a Bengali TV serial actress whose career was on a rise but she gave her life after her female live-in partner, who was also an actress, left her in Feb, 2015.
Rinki was found lying on the stairs of first floor of the Railway quarters, deep in her own blood on Thursday. She was taken to BNR Hospital by the Railway Protection Force constables, where she was announced dead by the doctors.
Mandira’s father worked for an agency which was outsourced by railways, and she used to stay in the same colony with her parents.
An Officer told, “Rinki’s relatives told us they were good friends for years. But recently Mandira started to disturb her continuously asking to stay with her permanently. Rinki was not comfortable with that. After Mandira came to know about the marriage, she began threatening her with dire consequences.”
Rinki’s younger brother told the police that he had noticed Mandira wandering in front of their home in the evening.
The officer told, “He rushed home and warned Rinki about Mandira before heading for his evening tuition. Prima facie it looks like Mandira called out Rinki and then stabbed her.”
Police will also send a search to Mandira’s village in South 24 Parganas district.
