It isn’t difficult to figure out as to why Maruti Gypsy doesn’t have popularity among civilians. It is devoid of power steering, power window, air conditioner and is uncomfortable. It doesn’t even have the basic fitments that are seen in the modern day SUVs. But still, there is a reason as to why Gypsy is still a staple.
It is sturdy!
Whether you air drop it or lift it, Gypsy takes it all. It always undergoes the air drop routine. Many a times, vehicles have to be air dropped behind enemy lines and at such times, Gypsies are considered to be the 1st choice. They have a sturdy built and since there are no unnecessary equipments, it is quite light weight as compared to other SUVs. It is a perfect vehicle for ‘War-like’ conditions due to its go-anywhere capability and Raw power. It has a 4-cylinder engine which is capable of producing around 80bhp which is similar to Mahindra Thar, the competitor.
One more reason!
The engine of Gypsy can be finetuned for producing more power and modification of the body can be done as per the purpose that would be served in the war. No top, soft top or hard top are some basic models that don’t need expertise. When Gypsy is loaded with 200kgs of weight, it is more driveable and this is the reason why it is chosen.
Even though there is latest news of Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio replacing Gypsy, we bet no car can replace it.
