A 32 year old Indian man named Jitender Singh has been sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment in the United States on Wednesday, as he stalked a woman from Delhi to Texas for almost 10 years.
Greg Willis, the Collin Country District Attorney announced his sentence and stated that this decade-long stalking nightmare of the victim must be put to an end.
When did it start?
As per Willis, Jitender had 1st met this victim (identity hidden) when they attended college in New Delhi. In the year 2006, Jitender had asked the victim for marriage. The proposal was refused by the victim and this further sparked the anger of Jitender. Then, Jitender started following the victim home and also gave her violence threats till her graduation.
What happened next?
In the year 2007, the victim left to New York University for further studies. However, the obsession of Jitender didn’t end yet. He continued harassing and assaulting the father of the woman in India. Jitender had been convicted for the crimes he committed in India, but he made an agreement and appeal with authorities for staying away from the victim. Then, Jitender travelled to New York where he enrolled in the same university as the victim. The university ordered him to stay away and when the victim moved for an internship to California, he further followed her after tracing her address.
When she moved to New York again, Jitender followed again. An IT company hired her and in the year 2011, she moved to Plano. Between the year 2011-2014, the victim was harassed through phone calls and other means. In 2014, the address of the victim in Plano was noted down and a credit monitoring service account was created falsely in her name. When she was away, Jitender travelled to Plano and broke into her house after he convinced a locksmith for unlocking the door. Her passport, documents as well as social security card was taken away, along with jewelry.
A neighbor who was quite suspicious of this act called up Plano police and Jitender was located in the parking lot of the apartment of the victim, after which he was arrested.
